What is it?

You love shooting film? Let YAFRA be your digital notebook for recording date, location and exposure details for every picture captured. Select your camera, load a film and then log all the data with a single tap. Switch seamlessly between different cameras. Browse exposed rolls in the app or export the data to augment your scanned pictures.

Your Analog Film Roll App

Getting started

Getting started ist easy. Yafra comes with both default cameras and default films preconfigured. But, like with any real analog film camera, you have to load a film before you can begin.
Tap the film icon in the tab bar at the bottom. You see an empty list. Tap Load to see a list of available film types. Choose a predefined film type by tapping it.
Now you are good to go. Happy Shooting!

In general, Yafra is modelled after an analog film camera.
You can't have two films in one camera at the same time, but you can have multiple films in multiple cameras.
A film that has been removed from the camera can't be loaded again (although that is technically possible with some real cameras).

But in some ways Yafra is not like a real camera. For instance, you can't unload a film. What? Yes, a film stays in the camera until you load a new roll.

FAQ

Can I add a short note to a film roll?
Yes, after loading a film, swipe right on the selected film to customize it.

I can't delete the first film from the film list
The first film in the list is still in the camera. Only films that have been unloaded (by loading a new film) can be deleted with a left swipe.

How can I export my log data
Select the film you want to export and tap the share button. Export to any app on your device or an Apple Mac.

The exported data looks gibberish, now what?
The data is encoded in a format called JSON and a human should be able to read aperture and exposure times plus camera info. Location and date need to be converted and a small utility to do that (as well as conversion to XMP Sidecar format) is being developed.

My film does not show in the film list
Are you using multiple cameras? The film in the current camera is only listed if that camera is selected.

Can I edit film types or cameras?
Not at the moment. But feel free to delete film types or cameras and (re)create your own. Existing film rolls are not affected. But don't delete a camera that contains exposed film, those frames will be discarded as well.

Why the strange name and icon?
I started to work on Yafra because the film roll apps that existed at the time didn't meet my requirements. 'Yet Another Film Roll App' was born. Calling an app 'yet another' didn't seem like a good idea, so now it is 'Your Analog Film Roll App'.
And to my ears, 'Yafra' sounds similar to 'Jaffa', an orange variety used in my childhood to market, well, oranges.

Roadmap

  • Add export to XMP Sidecar
  • Add support for describing lenses for cameras
  • Edit exposed film infos Done
  • Edit infos for single frames within a film
  • Edit cameras and film types
